John Vang

Graduate Student

Molecular, Cellular, and Integrative Physiology (MCIP) Program

UC Davis

John is a 2nd‑year MCIP graduate student. He earned his B.S. in Cell and Molecular Biology and completed his M.S. at CSU Chico, where he studied bacterial genetics. His current research investigates how dysregulated immune responses contribute to the progression and severity of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), with a particular focus on macrophage‑driven mechanisms. Outside of the lab, John enjoys landscaping, home‑improvement projects, and on rare occasions, fishing! After completing his degree, he hopes to continue his career as a scientist—whether in academia, industry, or the public sector—driven by a commitment to advancing biomedical research.

Hanzhi (Hannah) Zhang

Graduate Student

Molecular, Cellular, and Integrative Physiology (MCIP) Program

UC Davis

Hannah is a PhD student in the Molecular, Cellular and Integrative Physiology (MCIP) Graduate Group. She earned her BS in Biochemistry from the University of Rochester and previously worked at UCSF studying skeletal muscle fibrosis and regeneration. Her current research focuses on fibroblast–macrophage communication in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and the signaling pathways that drive fibrotic remodeling. Outside the lab, she enjoys gardening, running, and spending time with her cats.

Zhiyuan (Cooper) Jin

Graduate Student

Chemical Engineering Program

UC Davis

Zhiyuan (Cooper) was originally a 1-st year PhD student in chemical engineering and joined the lab as a Master Student in 2026 Summer. He earned his B.S degree in Pharmaceutical Science in China Pharmaceutical University. Currently, his working on the projects about targets identification of IPF and therapeutic design for ILD-PH (Interstitial Lung Disease-Associated Pulmonary Hypertension). Besides lab work, Zhiyuan enjoys working out in the gym, basketball and photography.
